Stolen Valor By Some Find A Grave Managers

Find A Grave management (www.findagrave.com) by design has made it very easy for essentially un-vetted new membership subscription. It is true that some memorial managers choose to be anonymous using an alias to protect/hide their true identity. Encouraging alias use is a problem in our general population since maybe 15+ percent of folks in the general population hold some sort of mental disorder. Such people can and do corrupt a well-meaning cause like FindAGrave.com. A recent finding is highly upsetting, where it seems a few memorial profile managers have edited memorial profiles to thus make these honored deceased veterans eligible for gallant acts like honorable Revolutionary War military service. In the active military, wearing an unearned badge, ribbon, or medal is a probable courts-martial offense – the dishonorable conduct is called “Stolen Valor” and if found true is worthy of a less than honorable discharge from military service. Cases have been seen where a clearly mentally-challenged non-veteran shows up at a formal military veteran activity wearing a U.S. military uniform and a chest full of medals... some people are just crazy.

Any Find A Grave memorial manager found, who knowingly edits or adjusts a military veteran memorial profile with invalid data or credentials to thus make their favorite veteran seem more gallant or heroic – well, such managers need to be ex-communicated, purged-for-cause from Find A Grave. Find A Grave management should immediately take possession of the memorial profiles such people inappropriately “manage”... period! But it is true, persons doing such cowardly acts can always sign up again to Find A Grave under a new alias... this is an issue with Find A Grave management's open door policy. Very poor vetting of membership application claims has also been true in earlier Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), etc. new membership applications. Cases can be shown where an approved DAR/SAR member has incorrectly claimed the wrong Revolutionary War veteran who holds the same or a similar name.
